It is useful to distinguish between three overlapping things that are often collapsed into one. The first is a recognised social beach: a place where queer people gather visibly and comfortably, much as they might at a park or café. The second is a nudist or clothing-optional area, which in most jurisdictions is a separately regulated designation with its own boundaries and signage. The third is the assumption, frequently reported in community discussion, that certain secluded margins carry sexual expectations. These three are distinct, they are governed differently, and conflating them is a common source of misunderstanding.
