The third, and the place where emotional harm most often occurs, is the belief that a good first meeting creates obligation. People sometimes stay longer than they wish, or agree to more than they want, because the meeting has been pleasant and declining feels ungrateful. This dynamic is rarely intentional on either side, but it is a frequent source of later regret. Hospitality is offered, not exchanged; it does not create a debt.
