Guests, for their part, are often unaware of what a host has negotiated with their building. A guest entering a hallway is, briefly, a representative of the person they are visiting.
| Safety=Common areas sit at the intersection of privacy and security, and both matter. Propping open a street door for convenience removes the building's main protective barrier for every resident, not only the one expecting a visitor. Similarly, admitting an unknown person who buzzes without identifying themselves transfers a decision that belongs to the whole building to a single resident acting on assumption.
