What tends to endure is not whether the original plan survived, but how the change was handled — whether the alternative respected the terms both people had agreed to, whether either person felt free to decline it, and whether the meeting remained something chosen rather than something drifted into. Awareness of that, more than any particular contingency, is what makes disrupted plans easy to recover from.
