At the same time, community centres are not free of social friction. Small volunteer-run organisations can develop internal hierarchies, long-standing personal tensions, and informal in-groups that are invisible to newcomers but strongly felt. This is a known dynamic in voluntary associations generally and is worth recognising without cynicism.
