| Understanding=Event costs are generally divided into a few broad categories. There are fixed costs, which exist regardless of how many people attend, such as a venue booking, a deposit, or a cleaning service. There are variable costs, which scale with attendance, such as food, drinks, and consumables. And there are what might be called invisible costs, which include the host's time, wear on their home, and the labour of preparation and cleanup.
