Different models of cost sharing appear across communities. Some hosts absorb everything as a matter of principle. Some ask guests to bring specific items. Some use an open contribution model where guests give what they can. Others split costs evenly in advance. None of these is inherently more correct; what matters is that the model is understood by everyone before the event rather than negotiated during or after it.
| Social=Money carries social meaning that has little to do with the amounts involved. Being asked to contribute can feel like being welcomed into shared ownership of an evening, or it can feel like being billed for friendship, depending almost entirely on how and when the subject is raised. The framing tends to matter more than the figure.
