Autonomy runs in both directions. A person who needs to change plans is entitled to do so without justifying themselves in detail. A person receiving that change is entitled to decide that the new arrangement no longer suits them. Neither position requires the other's approval.

| Reality=Reality Check: a common misconception is that a good reason removes the impact. It does not. An entirely valid explanation still leaves the other person with a reorganised evening. Acknowledging that impact, briefly and without excessive apology, is usually what allows a plan to be rescheduled rather than quietly abandoned.
