This article looks at mobility accessibility as a social and relational subject rather than a construction standard. The emphasis is on awareness, accurate information, and the way access shapes who is able to show up.

| Understanding=Accessibility is frequently reduced in the popular imagination to the presence or absence of a ramp. In practice it is a chain of conditions, and the chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Reaching a location may involve transport, parking distance, pavement quality, and weather. Entering may involve steps, door widths, thresholds, door weight, and whether a lift is present and functioning. Remaining may involve seating, floor surfaces, lighting, distance to a bathroom, and the width of routes between furniture. A space with excellent entry conditions and an inaccessible bathroom is, for many people, not accessible at all.
