The invitation stage is where most of the framing occurs. What is communicated at this point — the nature of the occasion, its approximate duration, who else may attend, whether food will be provided — establishes what people arrive expecting. Ambiguity at this stage is a common source of later friction, since guests tend to fill informational gaps with assumptions drawn from their own past experiences.
