Awareness here is mostly a matter of noticing: noticing who controls the space, how easily one could leave, what assumptions might be attached to the choice, and whether both people are actually working from the same understanding. Those observations do not need to be spoken aloud as a checklist. They simply need to be present in one's own thinking before agreeing.
