Groups may consider what they communicate in advance about expectations, boundaries, and the general character of a gathering. Ambiguity is the most common source of difficulty. A newcomer who has not been told what an event involves cannot meaningfully consent to participating in it, and a group that has not stated its norms cannot fairly hold someone to them.
