A frequent misunderstanding is that community centres are primarily social or romantic venues. Some programming is explicitly social, and connections certainly form there. But many activities are support-oriented, and treating a peer support group as a place to meet partners is generally understood within these communities as a mismatch of purpose. People often describe learning to read which events are which — an open café evening and a closed discussion group carry very different expectations.
