Translations:Setting Expectations/10/en
Group settings add another layer. When several people are involved, expectations are rarely uniform, and what is obvious to organisers may be invisible to a newcomer. Stating the basic shape of a gathering in advance is widely regarded as a courtesy rather than a formality.
| Safety=Expectation-setting is closely connected to consent, though the two are not identical. Consent concerns agreement to what happens; expectations concern the surrounding context in which that agreement is given. Clear context tends to make consent more meaningful, because people are agreeing to something they can actually picture.
