Each option distributes control differently. Independent lodging gives the visitor a private place to return to at any hour, and it removes the question of imposing on someone. Staying with a host reduces cost and can feel more personal, but it places both people in continuous proximity, sometimes for longer than either anticipated. A hybrid arrangement is frequently described as a middle path, though it involves greater expense and some coordination.
