Conversational comfort is also asymmetric. What feels effortless to a confident speaker may feel demanding to someone who processes more slowly, is less familiar with the group, or is navigating a second language. In mixed groups, the loudest register is not neutral; it simply becomes the default. Awareness of this asymmetry is often described as the single most useful shift a participant can make.
