There is also a tendency to assume that hosting is a favour that creates a debt. It does not. Hospitality offered freely is not a claim on the guest, and framing it as one tends to sour the connection. Equally, a guest who leaves a space in poor condition is not committing a moral failing so much as ignoring a shared standard that most communities treat as basic courtesy.
