Consent and autonomy apply to physical assistance as directly as to anything else. Mobility aids are generally regarded as extensions of the person, and moving a wheelchair, cane, or walker without permission is widely experienced as an intrusion. Offers of help are best made as offers rather than actions, with the answer accepted as given. Assistance that is imposed can compromise balance and safety as well as dignity.
