Patience is the quality most consistently named by regular attendees. Listening to someone construct a sentence slowly, without finishing it for them, is a small act of generosity that shapes the atmosphere of the whole group. Groups where this is common tend to retain members; groups where fluent speakers dominate tend not to.

| Safety=Language exchange meetups are generally low-risk social environments, but the same awareness that applies to any gathering with strangers applies here. Public venues are the norm for first attendance, and there is no obligation to move to a private setting, a second location, or a one-to-one arrangement simply because a group has ended for the evening.
