There is also a social dimension between neighbours that predates any particular visit. Buildings develop informal tolerances over years. A resident with good relationships may absorb an occasional late evening without incident, while someone already in conflict with a neighbour may face complaints over comparatively little. Guests rarely have visibility into this history, which is another reason to defer to a host's judgement about what is workable.
