Emotional harm in this area rarely comes from the delay itself. It comes from feeling unimportant: waiting without information, having plans changed repeatedly without acknowledgement, or being made to feel unreasonable for having expected what was agreed. Equally, harm can come from the other direction, when someone is criticised harshly for a single unavoidable lateness.
