There is a social pattern worth recognising: weather is sometimes used as a convenient explanation for a cancellation that has other reasons behind it. This is generally understood within communities as a low-conflict way of stepping back. Reading too much into it, or pressing for clarification, tends to produce more discomfort than clarity.
