The third is the silence that follows. Absence of contact after a meeting is often read as rejection, judgement, or regret, when it may reflect nothing more than distraction. Equally, a person who does not wish to meet again may avoid saying so to spare feelings, which usually produces more confusion than a brief and neutral message would.
