There is also an asymmetry between hosts and guests that is easy to overlook. A host may have prepared space, arranged food, or coordinated with people they live with. A guest may have arranged transport, adjusted other commitments, or told someone where they would be for safety reasons. Each side often assumes their own preparation was the more substantial one.
