Parks also carry a longer and more layered history within queer communities. In many cities, and for many decades, outdoor public space served as one of the few places where men could meet at all, and that history remains part of how these spaces are perceived today. Understanding parks as meeting places means holding both realities at once: an ordinary civic amenity, and a setting with particular social associations that vary considerably by city, by park, and by time of day.
