A frequent misunderstanding is that communities are created by events. Events are the occasion, not the substance. Community is more accurately associated with what happens between events: the follow-up message, the offer of help with a move, the person who remembers a name and an ongoing situation. A calendar full of gatherings attended by strangers does not, on its own, produce belonging.
