That ordinariness is part of why coffee meetups are so widely used. They are short by default, easy to leave, and easy to repeat. Neither person is expected to have planned much beyond showing up, and the surrounding environment does some of the social work — background noise, other customers, a counter to walk to when a pause becomes uncomfortable.
