Another misunderstanding treats expectation-setting as inherently unromantic or transactional. People report the opposite as often as not: when the frame is agreed, attention is freed from silent negotiation and the meeting itself feels less strained. Ambiguity is not the same as spontaneity, and a clear frame can still contain a great deal of openness within it.
