This article looks at accessibility as a logistical and relational subject. It is observational rather than prescriptive, and it assumes that the people involved are adults capable of describing their own needs when the conversation is open enough to allow it.

| Understanding=At its core, accessibility concerns the distance between what a space demands and what a person can comfortably do. A fourth-floor apartment without a lift is not inherently exclusionary, but it does set a condition. A venue with loud music sets another. Neither is a failure in itself; the difficulty tends to arise when the condition is unstated, so that a person discovers it only on arrival.
