Community discussion often separates two related ideas. The first is physical access: entrances, stairs, lifts, door widths, seating, bathrooms, lighting, temperature, and the route from public transport or parking to the door. The second is what is sometimes called social or sensory access: noise levels, crowding, unpredictability, time pressure, and the availability of a quiet place to pause. People report that the second category is more often overlooked, partly because it leaves no visible trace in a floor plan.
