This is not a matter of etiquette for its own sake. Departures carry emotional weight because they signal, however indirectly, how the visitor valued the experience. A departure that feels considered tends to leave both people settled. One that feels rushed or evasive can unsettle a connection that was otherwise going well.
| Understanding=Leaving gracefully rests on a small number of ideas rather than a fixed procedure. The first is that departure is a shared moment, not a unilateral act. Announcing an exit gives the host a chance to respond, to close the visit on their own terms as well, and to avoid the sense of being left behind mid-conversation.
