Within adult and queer communities specifically, friendship networks are sometimes layered with other kinds of history. Former partners may become friends. People who met in intimate or social contexts may transition into platonic connection. These transitions can be sustainable, but they generally require explicit conversation about what the relationship now is, rather than an assumption that it will settle on its own.
