The third is the belief that discomfort must be dramatic to be legitimate. Most emotional harm in group contexts is quiet — a person feeling steadily less visible, or gradually agreeing to more than they wanted in order not to disrupt the mood. This is not a failure of assertiveness, and it is not the fault of those who did not notice. It is a predictable feature of how groups work.
